Capcom has been riding on a Resident Evil high these past few years with their recent Remasters of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, both of which did very well in their own right. We already know that Resident Evil Village is on the way very soon, but now some interesting information has come out from some of Video Game Chronicles’ sources. Apparently, it has been reported that the company has decided to completely overhaul the development of what we now know is another Remaster, this time of one of the greatest games in history; Resident Evil 4.
According to the sources in the report, the development team, known as M-Two, is having their role “significantly reduced” due to some creative differences with Capcom. The report states that M-Two wished to keep the original aspects, and mechanics of the original 2005 release with the obvious visual upgrade. Capcom’s production team disagreed with this assessment, and instead wanted to take a direction in which the game would see inspiration from the original with its own unique take on the aforementioned features and not just a complete remake.
According to the report, these differences were the major factor in Capcom’s decision to essentially reboot the development, as they have now given the project to one of their internal studios, Division 1, which is known for developing the critically acclaimed Devil May Cry V. The report’s sources say that due to this restart the Resident Evil 4 Remake has more than likely been delayed from its original launch time frame, now placing it with a possible release in 2023. It’s important to note that Capcom themselves have yet to announce this title, and if the sources are to be believed, then it’s possible that we won’t hear about it for a long time.
Of course, it wouldn’t come as a complete shock if they are in fact creating another Remake from their most successful franchise in history. As we already mentioned, Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake had their own varying degrees of success, with the former being critically acclaimed and was nominated for numerous Game of the Year Awards. Resident Evil 4 has been ported numerous times on several platforms since its initial launch on the Gamecube in 2005, each one with different upgrades to the visuals. Even if we have to wait, we still have the upcoming Resident Evil Village with an official launch date of May 7, 2021. That’s a lot sooner than we expected, and quite frankly, a very welcome surprise as many fans have been looking forward to a brand new entry in the legendary series.
