Last week, Capcom announced the Resident Evil showcase would take place today. During the event, the developers shared new footage and more details about the next game in the franchise, Resident Evil Village. Capcom also announced that the game will be releasing on May 7, 2021, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Players who get the game on PS4 can get the game on PlayStation 5 with a free digital upgrade. Resident Evil Village will also take part in Microsoft’s Smart Delivery program with Xbox so players who get the game on Xbox One can play the game on Xbox Series X|S.
The new footage and gameplay that was presented during the showcase was all about a mysterious castle and its residents. Dimitrescu castle is occupied by Lady Dimitrescu, the infamous tall lady from the reveal, as well as her three daughters. The footage also provided a spotlight as two other characters. “The Duke” is a merchant who you’ll be able to purchase weapons, items, and possible customization options. The other character remains a mystery, but he did leave quite an impression.
Combat in Resident Evil Village will require different approaches to the wide variety of foes that you’ll face. There are new ways to engage such as kicking away enemies to create space so you can either fight back or escape. Capcom also revealed that a demo is now available for PlayStation 5 owners. The demo, Maiden functions as a side story that takes place in the same world as Village. The demo revolves around a character known as the “maiden” as she tries to find a way out of Dimitrescu castle. Another separate, new demo will be released sometime this Spring
