The next Sonic game, Sonic Frontiers has a release date. Sonic Frontiers is set to release on November 8, 2022 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Following leaks earlier in the day, the release date was officially confirmed during Gamescom Opening Night Live with a new trailer.
Earlier today, the Japanese Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel had the trailer available publicly before Gamescom Opening Night Live. The trailer went private shortly after it was available. Industry insider Nibel saw the trailer, took a screenshot which showcased the November 8 release date. The date matches what SEGA gave as a release window for the game which was the fourth quarter of 2022.
Sonic Frontiers follows Sonic trying to figure out why he has become stranded on an ancient island on his search of missing Chaos emeralds. The island is teeming with unusual creatures which Sonic will have to battle as you explore a breathtaking world of action, adventure, and mystery.
Sonic Frontiers features five massive overworld islands brimming with dense forests, overflowing waterfalls, and sizzling desert landscapes. Each island will have their own unique action-platforming challenges and hidden secrets to uncover. Portals scattered across the islands take Sonic through Cyber Space levels featuring signature 3D platforming at Sonic speeds.
The new combat system for Sonic Frontiers and skill tree upgrades allows Sonic to fight strategically, combining moves such as dodges, parries, counters, and combos. The new cyloop ability is used to take on mysterious new foes and colossal titans.
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Explorer’s Treasure Box which has Amy’s Memory Tokens, Knuckles’ Memory Tokens, Tails’ Memory Tokens, Portal Gears, Chaos Emerald Vault Keys, Additional Gloves and Shoes for Sonic, and a Digital Art Book with a 25-track Digital Mini Soundtrack.
