Arkane’s Future Is Still Up In The Air Following Extension To Mid-December To Continue Search For New Buyer

Earlier this year, XBOX outlined its plans for the future amid a major restructuring of the company which saw thousands of employees laid off and the letting go of mutiple first-party studios. While most studios either gained or regained their independence, Arkane’s future is still in the air due to France’s “Florange Law.” The law requires companies with more than 1,000 employees who want to close a facility to search for a buyer first. The deadline for Arkane’s case is November 13 but Microsoft has extended the deadline by a month, so it can continue to pursue alternative options.

“We have extended the consultation period by one additional month as we explore options, including finding a partner to support the studio through the development work still ahead,” a Microsoft representative told PC Gamer.

Arkane is currently in development on Marvel’s Blade. The game was announced back in 2023 at the 2023 Game Awards. Sources close to the studio say that the game still has years to go before development will be complete.

Members of the Printemps Ecologique union, which represents workers at Arkane, say that Marvel’s Blade is virtually finished and it would be a “monumental waste” should it fail to see the light of day.
