Pokemon Presents Reveals Pokemon Legends Z-A

The Pokémon Company held its latest Pokémon Presents on 2/27 to celebrate Pokémon Day, where they revealed a mobile game based on the trading card game and Pokémon Legends: Z-A, an apparent sequel to Pokémon Legends: Arceus set in the world of and Y.

The showcase ran for about 12 minutes, with the majority of the runtime focusing on mobile game updates. The major reveal of the event was Pokémon Legends: Z-A, a Legends: Arceus-style game set in Lumiose City from 2013’s Pokémon X and Pokémon Y on the Nintendo 3DS.

The trailer doesn’t show much, consisting mostly of a blueprint for an urban redevelopment plan for Lumiose City. Legends: Arceus featured time travel to a previous era of the Sinnoh region, so its possible that the same will be done for Kalos. Is this redevelopment showing the construction of Lumiose City as it appears in X and Y, or does the holographic 3D section of the trailer indicate that players will be traveling to the future of the region this time around?

The game will release worldwide in 2025, though a platform was not listed. With the Nintendo Switch successor reportedly planned for March 2025, it’s possible that this could be our first look at a release for Nintendo’s next console.

The Pokémon Presents also showed off a mobile version of the popular trading card game, called Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket. The trailer shows players opening virtual cards, trading with friends, and battling. Players can open two packs of cards for free every day, with more presumably available with an in-app purchase. The app will launch sometime this year.

Finally, a host of existing games received updates. Upcoming Tera Raid battle events in February and March for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet include mighty versions of Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard. Pokémon Unite will get new playable characters in Miraidon, Falinks, and Ceruledge.

For mobile games, Pokémon Go is hosting a collaborating with the Pokémon Horizons series that adds a costume for Pikachu along with Charcadet, Armarouge, and Ceruledge. Raikuo, Entei, and Suicine are coming to Pokémon Sleep, and Pokémon Café Remix will have a Paldea-themed event.

Alex Andahazy: I have been playing games since my childhood, and am constantly looking to expand my horizons. I have always been a Nintendo fan at heart, but in recent years I've moved to a much wider variety of genres and platforms.
