Delve Into Dark Souls 3’s Demented World With Its True Colors of Darkness Trailer

With only a month and a half left until its release, Dark Souls III has fans of From Software’s brutal hack-and-slash RPG series brimming with anticipation. Leaked gameplay footage from earlier this month demonstrated that From has incorporated many elements from its recent hit, Bloodborne, into Dark Souls 3’s gameplay and aesthetics. A new trailer released today by From, titled “True Colors of Darkness,” provides testimony to this fact.

Check out the trailer, which is set to Cynid Lauper’s “True Colors,” below:

The world of Lordran is adorned with crowns of twisted bodies and crumbling ruins. All manner of unearthly and grotesque creatures lurk in its most shadowy corners; which is to say, every single corner. Humanity clings to a precarious precipice, eking out a living while fending off evils conjured by ancient magics. But, as is the case with any From Software game, those with perseverance and the will to survive will uncover the truth to Lordran’s most shadowy secrets (in addition to finding some powerful weapons and nifty loot). Or perhaps these secrets will spiral into darker, more dreadful tunnels into Lordran’s past. One never knows in the protean landscape of a Dark Souls game, where what is seen is not always reality.

Dark Souls III’s quicker combat also presents itself in the True Colors trailer. Players will still be tasked with deftly dodging lethal enemy attacks, but the frames of animation on combat maneuvers, enemy actions, and player attacks have been noticeably sped up when compared to From’s previous games. This should provide a fresh gameplay experience to both veteran From fans and newcomers alike.

Most importantly, From promises that Dark Souls III’s action-RPG gameplay will be just as punishing – and rewarding – as ever. Do you have what it takes to plumb Lordran’s forbidding depths?

Dark Souls III will available April 12, 2016 in North America and South America for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.
