Harebrained Schemes Partners with Bandai Namco for Necropolis Console Release

BANDAI NAMCO has announced that they will be the console publisher for Necropolis, the PC indie game by Harebrained Schemes.

In a press release, Eric Hartness, VP of Marketing, announced that they were “impressed and excited” by the game’s demo at PAX East, and praised the game’s “off-kilter humor and unique visuals,” describing it as “the perfect companion game for Dark Souls fans and a great addition to our game portfolio.”

Jordan Weisman, CCO of Harebrained Schemes, agreed, and said:

We couldn’t think of a better partner to help us bring our team’s vision for Necropolis to consoles. BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. is a terrific publisher and truly understands how to collaborate with an independent studio like ours.

In order to deliver a “consistent, quality Necropolis experience for all platforms,” the game’s PC launch date has been pushed from March 17 to this summer, in order to launch simultaneously for PC, Mac, the PlayStation 4, and the Xbox one, with an exact date TBA. Harebrained will still self-publish the title on Steam, while Bandai Namco is now officially in charge of the console release.

In Necropolis, which supports up to four player multiplayer, players must search for treasure hidden within dungeons, while battling with dangerous creatures and avoiding deadly traps. Death is permanent within the game, meaning players have to start all over, and a new “procedurally-generated dungeon” is created after every death.

As we reported previouslyNecropolis is unique Rogue-lite game in that its combat “emphasizes timing and reactions in 3D space.”

The game’s dynamic AI means that monsters inhabit what Harebrained calls a “living ecology of threats,” which means that “certain enemies will exhibit predator/prey relationships with one another that players can use to their advantage in combat.”

The game also features crafting abilities, and powerful weapons, armor, and upgrades scattered throughout every room.
