PlayStation Will No Longer Require PSN Account Login In Order To Play Helldivers II On PC

Helldivers II is one of the biggest games of the year in 2024. Currently, it is the best-selling game of the year, as Circana reported. However, things took turn when it was revealed that it would require a link to a PlayStation account in order to play the game on PC, which is a large part of the game’s success. As you might imagine, it did not go over well with the community as the game was bombarded with negative Steam reviews. The game even got removed from Steam in regions where PlayStation Network is not available. The requirement was set to begin at the end of the month on May 30 and was part of the May 6 update. Now, PlayStation has reversed course and will no longer require PC players to link to a PSN account to play Helldivers II on PC.

PlayStation said:

Helldivers fans — we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will no longer be moving forward.

We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.”

In other PlayStation PC-related news, Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed a new PlayStation overlay that will provide support for PlayStation trophies, cross-play, and more. The overlay will be available with the Ghost of Tsushima PC port which releases next week on May 16. It’s the Director’s Cut edition which includes the full game, the Iki island expansion, and the cooperative online Legends mode. Players can play the single-player component of Ghost of Tsushima without a PSN account but linking to one is required in order to access the Legends mode.
