Cyberpunk 2077 Will Not Include Microtransactions

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently at PAX AUS and fans of CD Projekt Red’s previous works might be happy to hear that Cyberpunk 2077 will not include microtransactions. Gamespot interviewed the head of CD Projekt Red’s Krakow Studio John Mamais on a number of topics regarding the upcoming Sci-Fi game including microtransactions and post-release plans.

Microtranactions have become a somewhat controversial mechanic in modern games. Some gamers might view microtransactions as a way for publishers to increase profits, while some might see them as a way to fund future expansions of games. CD Projekt Red’s John Mamais’ opinion on microtransactions is, “I think it’s a bad idea to do microtransactions after you release a game. It seems like it’s very profitable, though.” He went on to state, “But if everyone hates it, why would we do something like that and lose the goodwill of our customers?” This shows that CD Projekt Red has decided to focus more on customer satisfaction than the possibility of acquiring more wealth through numerous in-game transactions that require actual money.

In the interview with Gamespot, John Mamais hinted at the possibility of free DLC with big paid expansions in Cyberpunk 2077, similar to what CD Projekt Red did with The Witcher III: Wild Hunt. “t worked pretty well for The Witcher 3. I don’t see why we wouldn’t try to replicate that model with Cyberpunk 2077. We’re not talking about that yet, but it seems like that would be the smart way to go.” It is currently unconfirmed whether this will be implemented in Cyberpunk 2077, however, this quote does seem to support the possibility of free DLC being peppered around at the launch of the game. Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer however, the game will not support multiplayer at the launch of the game. Cyberpunk 2077 will release on April 16, 2020 and will be available for PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Google Stadia.
