Cyberpunk 2077 Multiplayer Clarified As Standalone Project

As the release of Cyberpunk 2077 gets closer and closer, more news and information keeps coming out about the game. Over the last few weeks, the final Night City Wire episode before the launch of the game was released; the pc requirements for the game got updated, and footage of the game running on Xbox and PlayStation was released. Now, CD Projekt Red has shared some new information about the multiplayer aspect of the game.

During a recent conference call, studio head Adam Kicinski talked about the multiplayer component of the game, revealing that it’s bigger in scope than may have been previously thought. Kincinski clarified that CD Projekt Red sees it as more of a standalone experience.

So, first, we don’t call it modes. It’s a separate dedicated production, a big production. We think about it as a standalone product.

So far, all we know about the multiplayer component of the game is that it’s in development and it will most likely get released sometime in 2022 or beyond. The reason for this is that CD Projekt Red plans to focus on the single-player aspect of the game and the planned DLC first.

Cyberpunk 2077’s multiplayer isn’t the only thing that is more of a standalone experience. Recently, Rockstar Games announced that Red Dead Online is becoming its own thing and is available to purchase tomorrow. You can argue that Rockstar’s other multiplayer mode for Grand Theft Auto, GTA Online is its own thing too. A new heist was recently revealed and is set to come out on December 15.

We won’t learn anything new about the multiplayer or expansions of Cyberpunk 2077 until sometime in the first quarter of 2021. As Kicinski explains: “The initial plan was to do it before release, but  after the recent delay, we decided to wait for the release to provide gamers with the game and then start talking about future projects.”
