Developer Retrofiction Games is back to continue the story of Dead of Darkness with a sequel. Rather than taking place on an island in England, Dead of Darkness 2 takes place around the same timeframe but in the United States.
Female protagonist Jun Takehara lives in rural Appalachia in the state of Pennsylvania during the year 1985. Her life is relatively quiet in her trailer, her only connection being an old veteran named Felton. He used to be close friends with her father that has since passed, and took up the responsibility to make sure she stays safe since she is on her own now.
While hunting, Jun finds a little girl in the woods; she’s injured, confused, and frightened. Being so deep in the woods, there is no other choice but to leave to seek help. Felton and Jun take the girl in, patch her up, and as they try to figure out what she was doing out there alone, there is a knock at the door. As if finding the girl wasn’t confusing enough, there are two police officers at the door of Jun’s trailer that are seemingly there because of who they are helping. This leads to the pair being dragged into “a nightmare of unspeakable horrors” in the utopian town of Goldren Creek.
This game, much like its predecessor, is focused on storytelling. To get the full scope of things, players will get to switch “between up to three characters during certain sections of the game”, with a cast of 28 characters in total. Everyone will have to fight the monstrous creatures in town, and a shared inventory will help with the process. You must fiigure out what truly happened here, and the only way to do that is by looking through files, items, and investigating your surroundings.
