Today, Ubisoft revealed their plans for an event after the cancelation of E3 2020. The publisher announced a digital event set for July 12 called. Ubisoft said: “With physical gaming shows around the world postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ubisoft will be hosting its first digital conference, called Ubisoft Forward, on July 12 at 12 PM PDT/9 PM CEST. Get ready for an E3-style showcase with plenty of exclusive game news, exciting reveals, and much more.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everybody in the games industry in one way or another. For developers and publishers, they have had to look to other alternatives as they don’t have an E3 this year to help spread the news. There have been a number of events since then that have been announced to help fill the void that is E3. Geoff Keighley announced the Summer Game Fest, four-month celebration of the industry where they will feature publisher news events, in-game events, playable content, and demos. IGN also announced something similar called Summer of Gaming. EA Play will be back as digital event this year and CD Projekt Red announced Night City Wire where it looks like they share another look at the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077.
Recently, Xbox shared the first look at Xbox Series X gameplay with the latest episode of Inside Xbox as part of Xbox 20/20, an initiative where Microsoft will share new information about the platform every month leading up to the launch of Xbox Series X later this year.
As for what to expect from Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is probably a safe bet after the criticism they received at what they showed at the Inside Xbox event. Earlier this year, an earnings call revealed that the company plans to release five AAA games coming late 2020 and early 2021. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is most likely one of them. Watch Dogs: Legion is also another possibility as it was delayed. We could also get new, proper look at Gods & Monsters which was announced at their press conference last year. This too could be one of the five games that they plan to release.
