Square Enix Adds Soundtracks for Every Major Final Fantasy Game to Spotify

Square Enix’s Final Fantasy franchise is cherished by people all over the world for many reasons, and its beautiful and iconic music is a big part of what makes these games so great. Square Enix understands that and is very careful with the scores for all the games, sometimes sacrificing availability for perfection. The famous music from the games is available for fans in a variety of formats, including vinyl collections and live orchestral performances and concerts.

As great as those things are, the vinyl collections are expensive and require special equipment, and it goes without saying that not everyone will be able to make it to the concerts, which are unique events. Today in a surprise move, Square Enix uploaded the music from all fifteen major Final Fantasy titles to Spotify, as well as music from some sequels, movies, and spinoff games. That’s a whole lot of games, and a whole lot of music. The selections include music composed by Yoko Shimomura, who worked on Final Fantasy XV and is also acclaimed for work on numerous other games, including Street Fighter and Kingdom Hearts. There is also, of course, music composed by the legendary Nobuo Uematsu, best known for the majority of the music from the earlier Final Fantasy games.

This unannounced addition to music streaming service Spotify’s library is a welcome surprise to anyone who fell in love with the Final Fantasy franchise. The music is such an important and memorable part of those worlds. The best part is that these soundtracks are available for free to Spotify users, removing the prohibitive costs that can be attached to quality recordings of music from these games. For iPhone users, these Final Fantasy soundtracks are also available on Apple Music, Apple’s own streaming service.

Square Enix is hosting concert in honor of Final Fantasy VII called “A Symphonic Reunion” on June 9th in Los Angeles, California, which is sure to stir up even more excitement around the upcoming remake for current-generation hardware.

Square Enix’s E3 press conference is scheduled for 6 PM PDT on Monday, June 10th, and it looks like there’s a lot to look forward to this year.

Angel Tuohy: I'm a fan of a lot of different games in different genres, and my favorites are Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Tekken, Persona, Resident Evil, and NieR. I think games are a brilliant way to tell a story, but it's important to me that the game is fun to play too. I've recently received my Master's degree in Literature.
