This year’s E3 is shaping up in an interesting way. With big names like Electronic Arts and Sony not holding press conferences during the event, in Sony’s case not attending the event at all, a well known company has plans to be there. Square Enix has announced that they will be returning to host a press conference during the event for the second year in a row. Not only is Square Enix hosting a press conference, they will be taking over the prime Monday night slot that has long been owned by Sony.

There is plenty that the Japanese publisher could show at their press conference this year. The company is planning to release Oninaki, from the director of Chrono Trigger, at some point this summer. Last month, they also confirmed that a possible sequel to last year’s Octopath Traveler is in development. The company also recently filed a new trademark for the long dormant Parasite Eve franchise, so an announcement for a new game in the franchise could be possible.
The publisher is also reportedly looking at releasing another major title this year following the release of Kingdom Hearts III in January. There are two major titles that the company has been very quiet on. The remake of Final Fantasy VII was announced back at E3 2015, and hasn’t been seen by the public since a trailer back at PlayStation Experience 2015. The latest news on the game was that it is planned to release by 2023.
The another major title that the company has been radio silent on is the Avengers game in development at Crystal Dynamics. The game was announced back in January 2017 and hasn’t been seen since. E3 would be a great place to finally unveil the game as it comes a little over a month after the film, Avengers: Endgame, releases.
You can watch the Square Enix press conference on Monday June 10 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
