Roguelike RPG TOREROWA Opens Beta Testing with Scheduled Live Stream

TOREROWA is an upcoming roguelike dungeon RPG developed by Asobimo, Inc., a company recognized for titles such as Toram Online and Avabel Online. The mobile game has undergone multiple rounds of beta testing since its official announcement on August 9, with the first occurring from August 20 to August 30, and the second occurring from October 2 to October 15. TOREROWA’s second open beta test introduced a new map called “Ruins of a Huge Underground Lake,” and a new boss named “Nightmare.” Asobimo has incorporated new content and balance adjustments into TOREROWA since these beta tests, warranting their current round of testing.

The game lets players explore the mysterious ruins of “Restos” as courageous adventurers. After customizing their characters and equipping from one of four weapon types (two-handed swords, blunt weapons, two-handed bows, and two-handed staffs) players venture into the dungeons which contain treasures, dangerous monsters, and fellow treasure hunters. TOREROWA’s gameplay emphasizes strategic exploration and combat in the face of random events and shrinking safe areas. Dungeons can contain up to fourteen other players at a time, which may create interesting dynamics upon the game’s official release.

Asobimo recently began TOREROWA’s third round of open beta testing on December 26, announcing it on a post via the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The post declares that all owners of Android devices have the opportunity to participate in the game’s current beta test. It spans from 15:00 on December 26 to 18:00 on January 10, JST (Japan Standard Time) and UTC+9 (Coordinated Universal Time + 9 hours). The post includes a link to the Google Play Store, where Android users can try out the game for free.

The company also announcedTOREROWA centered YouTube livestream via X, which is scheduled for December 27, starting at 12:00 JST/GMT+9. A link to the scheduled livestream is included in the post, along with a graphic advertising both the Android-only beta testing and the livestream event.

As of now TOREROWA has no official release date, but it is planned to be available for iOS and PC platforms as a free-to-play game in addition to Android devices. Any Android users currently interested in trying out the game can easily do so by seeking TOREROWA out on the Google Play Store.

I am captivated by video games and how they function as a story telling medium. Mobile games, specifically, are increasingly complex forms of entertainment that can be played on the go. While many video games are available only to those who can afford expensive consoles and computers, mobile games are designed for the average person.
