Return to Monkey Island is Now The Fastest Selling Entry in Franchise History

It turns out a lot of Monkey Island fans have been waiting for the day when a brand new entry in the series would be released. Publisher Devolver Digital has announced that Return to Monkey Island was a very successful endeavor, so much so that it is now the fastest-selling entry in the franchise’s history. That alone is very impressive, but the real kicker here is that the title managed to accomplish this feat after being available for just one whole month. The newest addition to the Monkey Island franchise has essentially become the new king of the fabled point-and-click adventure series in one fell swoop.

While Devolver Digital hasn’t offered any sales numbers, the milestone is still nothing to scoff at. It also helps that the last entry before this was the special edition of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge which was released way back in 2010. That’s a full 12-year difference between then and now, and with more classical PC game’s becoming in demand, it was only a matter of time before fans of Monkey Island came calling.

Return to Monkey Island was critically acclaimed, with most reviewers and critics praising the return to the classic point-and-click adventure genre. The game also launched for the Nintendo Switch, the only home console it was made available to besides the PC platform. Regardless of the single-console port, it still made it much more widely available to Switch owners, and more than likely accounted for the massive success that catapulted it to the top of the Monkey Island mountain.

Return to Monkey Island is available now for PC through Windows, macOS, and the Nintendo Switch.
