Resident Evil 3 Remake Ships More than 2 Million Units in Just Five Days

It looks like Capcom has another big hit on their hands. The company announced that their newest title, Resident Evil 3 Remakehas shipped more than 2 million units in just five days since it launched. According to the company, nearly 50% of those sales were digital copies, while the physical copies accounted for the rest. Considering that the game has been out for more than a week now, those numbers have more than likely gone up.

While this is an impressive feat in an of itself, Resident Evil 3 Remake seems to have gotten off to a bit of a slow start when compared to last year’s highly successful Resident Evil 2 RemakeThe latter was able to sell more than 3 million in the same time frame, and would eventually go onto outsell the original 1998 game’s lifetime sales in under year. As for Resident Evil 3 Remake, the original iteration’s lifetime sales sits at 3.5 million. It’s fairly safe to assume that the game will reach those numbers before the year is done, but for the time being, it’s being slightly outpaced by its predecessor.

It’s far too early to see how Resident Evil 3 Remake will fare in the long run, but so far it’s gotten mixed reception. Trying to step into the shoes of the juggernaut that was Resident Evil 2 Remake is an arduous task, to say the least, but Capcom has already proven that the remake formula is successful. After all, selling more than 2 million units in under a week is definitely something to be proud of, not just for a Resident Evil title, but for a AAA game in general.

Resident Evil 3 Remake is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out our review for the game here.
