Rayman Legends Retold Turns “Macarena” Into a New Rhythm-Based Platforming Level

Ubisoft has revealed a new musical stage for Rayman Legends Retold built around Los Del Río’s iconic “Macarena,” giving players another reason to look forward to the upcoming reimagining of the beloved platformer. The new level was revealed during gamescom 2026 alongside gameplay footage showing how the familiar song has been transformed into a rhythm-based platforming challenge.

The “Macarena” stage builds on one of the most recognizable features of the original Rayman Legends: its musical levels. These stages synchronize platforming with songs, requiring players to time jumps, movements, and other actions around the rhythm of the music. Rather than simply adding “Macarena” to the game’s soundtrack, Ubisoft has constructed an entire level around the song, making the music an integral part of the gameplay. The new level is also only one part of Ubisoft’s broader effort to expand Rayman Legends Retold. Ubisoft has previously confirmed that the game will contain four new musical stages, meaning “Macarena” is one of several new rhythm-based challenges being created specifically for the reimagining. The project will also add a new sixth realm, new story content, fully voiced cinematics, dragon-riding sections, an expanded soundtrack, and an updated version of Kung Foot. Ubisoft’s official announcement describes the project as more than a straightforward remaster.

That distinction is important because Rayman Legends Retold is being positioned as a reimagining rather than simply an upgraded version of the original game. Ubisoft is retaining the mechanics and visual identity that made Rayman Legends popular while introducing new content that was not part of the 2013 release. The “Macarena” level provides one of the clearest examples yet of that philosophy: an existing gameplay concept is being preserved, but new material is being built around it. Players will not have to wait long to see the full result. Rayman Legends Retold is scheduled to launch on October 1, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. With gamescom serving as one of the game’s final major promotional events before launch, Ubisoft is increasingly showing how much new material it has added to the classic platformer.

For longtime Rayman fans, the “Macarena” level may be more than a novelty. It demonstrates that Retold is attempting to preserve the creative experimentation of Rayman Legends while giving players entirely new reasons to revisit the series.
