Development studio LKA is back at it again after the well-received first-person psychological thriller/horror game The Town of Light. Once again partnering with publisher Wired Productions, their newly announced game of the same genre, Martha Is Dead, promises to “leave mark with gamers,” according to a blog post on the publisher’s website. Players will be transported to World War II-era Tuscany and assume the role of a girl whose twin sister has been found dead.
The psychological thriller will be roughly rooted in historical events of World War II and feature elements of the “mysterious folklore” of the time. “Martha is Dead is a first-person dark psychological thriller, combining disturbing and dreamlike tones with a mix of history, superstition and psychological distress,” according to the trailer’s description on YouTube. The trailer features a radio broadcast in Italian melding into an eerie song sung in Italian as well. While the broadcast doesn’t make the most sense (“Parla Londra,” “Ferite non è felice è cessata la pioggia,”) it could be some sort of military code based on the events of the time period.
Wired Productions notes that the game will be as realistic as possible, attempting to completely immerse the player in the world of the game. “With photo-realism at its core and using advanced texturing techniques alongside full support for real-time ray tracing, Martha is Dead is built in Unreal® Engine 4 and is set once again to blur the boundary between gaming and reality by bringing human stories to life; amplified with high-level production, cinematic visuals and haunting audio.”
So far, we know that the game will be available on Steam at launch based on the game’s page on the site. According to Wired Productions, they will be “revealing huge amount about the gaming [sic] over the coming year,” so make sure to keep an eye on their Twitter feed and website.
