PlayStation Store Changes Refund Policy

There are many players who purchase their games digitally and others who prefer old fashion brick retailers. However with digital retailers doing more and more to make the experiences better for consumers and ultimately push sales on their platforms, there are a lot of changes being made in order to achieve this goal.

In a recent development, Sony has made a few changes to their PlayStation Store cancellation and refund policy. Players are now able to request and receive refunds on pre-orders and other content up until release day under the condition that they “have not started downloading or streaming it.”

Anytime after the release of the game Sony states that customers are still able to request a refund “up to 14 days after payment was taken for the pre-order, provided that you have not started downloading or streaming the content to your device.”

Sony went on to emphasize that any players who continue to download or stream any content then they will unfortunately not be eligible for refund for that content. This excerpt of the policy is one players should be mindful of to avoid any discrepancies with any purchases in the future.

Also if that said content is deemed faulty, players will also be entitled to a refund. However, the official PlayStation support site does not define what they consider as “faulty” content at this time, so it will be interesting to see just want content will qualify. Refunds can be requested on content such as full games, DLC, season passes, avatars, themes and etc.

There are further details about how the changes to the refund policy affect subscriptions, content bundles, and PlayStation Network ID changes on the support site. These changes to the PlayStation Stores refund policy are coming alongside with some changes to digital purchases through third party retailers.
