Over the course of the year, developer People Can Fly have been sharing information about their new game, Outriders leading up to its eventual release sometime during the Holidays this year. Today, the developer and Square Enix have announced and confirmed that Outriders will be officially released next year on February 2, 2021. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam & Epic). Outriders will also come to Stadia sometime later in 2021.
People Can Fly says that the main reason for the delay was due to the impact of COVID-19. In the official announcement, Toby Palm, Outriders Community Manager, said “It had been our full intention to deliver Outriders to you within the Holiday 2020 season. COVID-19 has certainly affected our operations over the past months, but the teams have all worked extremely hard to adapt to changing circumstances. While the core game is now in a largely complete state, our testing operations were unfortunately among the most affected by the work-process-restructuring caused by the novel coronavirus. To that end, we need a bit more time to get it right and ensure that the Outriders experience will be as smooth and issue-free as it possibly can be when we launch. It is our utmost priority to give you the best and most complete Outriders experience possible, at all costs.
People Can Fly also announced that Outriders will support a complete cross-play experience that lets you play the full game with your friends and other players regardless of what platform. The game will also offer a free game upgrade from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 and with Smart Delivery from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S.
Outriders is a new drop-in, drop-out co-op shooter set in an original, dark, and desperate sci-fi universe. Players can choose from four classes, each with a unique playstyle and abilities. If you’re curious, check out our hands-on impressions of the game here.
