Yesterday Nintendo has announced that the new opening date of their delayed theme park is in the Spring of 2021. The Osaka based park was originally meant to be opened right before the Olympics in Tokyo (which were also delayed to pandemic concerns). Super Nintendo World was first announced to be collaboration between Universal Parks and Nintendo in 2015. The project was then approved for Universal Osaka in Japan in 2017. As there has still been no word of the indefinitely delayed Nintendo themed park in Orlando, Super Nintendo World will be the company’s largest license beyond the video game realm. There is also not a definite opening date for the park just yet (as it is still being built and tested), but the article also emphasizes that development is running just as it was before.
The announcement also states that this will be the world’s first theme park centered around the characters and the worlds of Nintendo. There is also a list of soon to be named attractions, restaurants, shops, and experiences that every Nintendo loving visitor can take part in. As the announcement calls Super Nintendo World a “life-size, living video game,” the park is set to use smart wristbands that pair with mobile apps to let players take part in a coin collecting game around the entire area, along with letting them use these coins to pay for a Mario Kart race, battle hidden bosses around the park, and take part in many hidden mini-games.
At the same time as this announcement, Nintendo also revealed that there would be a Mario themed cafe and store opening outside the park in Universal Studio’s Japan’s Hollywood area. The cafe’s shown to feature many Mario and Luigi themed pancakes, sandwiches, and drinks, accessories, and many more to come and be revealed to excited fans. As the pictures for this upcoming opening keep being released, many have shown their excitement for the decor, and the already released food and merchandise pictures.
