Recently, Nintendo announced and launched Kirby Fighters 2 for Nintendo Switch. The game was revealed and released out of nowhere. Today, Nintendo did something similar with the announcement and release of Super Mario Bros. 35, which brings in a battle royale experience with the classic gameplay of Super Mario Bros. The game is a digital-only title and will be available for a limited time until March 31, 2021, only for Nintendo Switch Online members. This new release is part of the 35th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 35 adds a 35-player twist to the classic Koopa shell-kicking, platforming action from the original NES game. Race against time competing against other players to remain the last Mario standing. As you defeat enemies, they will be sent to the opponents’ course. You’ll also earn extra time. Coins can be collected and used to get in-game items like power-ups.
The mechanic is very similar to Tetris 99 where 99 players compete in Tetris to remain the last player standing. Similarly, as you get rid of blocks on your stage, they can be sent to other players to make it harder for them to remain in the match.
There are also Daily Challenges that you can complete to earn in-game coins. Super Mario Bros. 35 also includes a limited-time event called Special Battles where you play a set order of courses. It’s like a regular game with 35 players but there are added special conditions like starting with 100 coins.
Today, Nintendo also revealed the newest member coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. From Minecraft, Steve, Alex, Zombie, and Enderman will be joining the fight as the second challenger pack in the Fighters Pass Vol. 2. A Minecraft-themed stage will accompany the group and the stage changes each time it’s loaded. A more detailed look will be presented this Saturday, October 3, at 7:30 am PT/ 10:30 am ET. ‘Fighting with Steve & Alex’ will also reveal when the characters will be released in the game.
