New Yooka-Laylee Multiplayer Mode Revealed

An article by WWG showed the newest trailer for the highly anticipated Yooka-Laylee. For those unfamiliar with the game, it’s a spiritual successor to the first two Banjo-Kazooie games and features much of the same mechanics and gameplay. Looking at Yooka-Laylee footage, you might even think it was a straight-up Banjo-Kazooie rip-off, if it wasn’t for the fact that a bunch of former Rare employees who are working on Yooka-Laylee are the same ones who made Banjo-Kazooie in the 90s.

The new trailer shows off a new location called Rextro’s Radical Arcade, which is basically the multiplayer hub. Here, the player(s) can choose one of eight minigames, which can be played alone with the goal of trying to beat the high score, or with up to four players in a competitive multiplayer style. Based on the new trailer, it appears that most of the multiplayer minigames are different kinds of racing games.

The single player mode of the game will also allow for two-player co-op, with the second player taking control of the Bee Team and will help Player 1 collect some of the games many collectibles. Both this two-player co-op and the four-player multiplayer modes will only be accessible via local multiplayer rather than online play.

Yooka-Laylee has a planned release date of April 11 and will be available for PS4, Xbox One, Mac, PC and Linux. A Wii U version was originally planned but since cancelled, leading many fans to suspect that a version for the Switch may be in the works.
