Monopoly GO!’s Friendship Plays Campaign Debuts with a Talking Monopoly Man and Star Power

Monopoly GO! is the hit mobile adaptation of the timeless Monopoly Board Game, developed by Scopely in collaboration with Hasbro. Launched fairly recently in April 2023, the game maintains the essential premise of original Monopoly while adding new features tailored specifically for mobile devices. This includes timed events, special tokens, multiplayer interactions, shorter sessions, and animated boards that bring the game to life on screens. The app has gained a significant fanbase since its release last year, becoming the fastest mobile game ever to gross $3 billion. Its success is at least in part due to Scopely’s regular implementation of new partnerships and themed events.

The game’s latest event dubbed “Friendship Pays” was announced today via multiple posts on X (formerly Twitter). It was also revealed that four renowned celebrities would be participating, all of which are featured in the event’s current advertisements. This marks the beginning of Monopoly GO!’s first ever Global Campaign, which plans on spanning over twenty videos through various platforms, including television and social media accounts.

The first of four recent posts on X simply describes the event’s premise, encouraging players to make memories with friends through Monopoly GO! A link included in the post directs readers to the App Store Monopoly GO! to download the game.

The second of these “Friendship Pays” posts, released today, includes a 45 second clip revealing the event’s celebrity partnerships. It opens on the iconic Monopoly Man, only now he is presented as an animated character voiced by the one and only Will Ferrell. The video then introduces Keke Palmer as Keke GoGo, Chris Pratt as Extra Chrispy, and Jason Momoa as Momoney. The comedic quartet are driven through the board by Will Ferrell’s Monopoly Man, playfully competing with each other.

The third post, released just ten hours following the prior, features another clip advertising the event. This video pits Chris Pratt and Keke Palmer against each other in a mock round of Monopoly GO! At first it appears like Pratt is bound to win, but Palmer suddenly takes the lead by trapping him in a barred cage, or “sending him to jail.” After an impromptu top hat shopping session with Ferrell’s Monopoly Man, the two of them call a truce.

The most recent post regarding Monopoly Go’s “Friendship Pays” campaign appears to have been posted simultaneously with the former. It features screen shots from prior clips, showing Chris Pratt lounging on bean bag, Keke Palmer rolling an oversized die, and Jason Momoa leaping through the air in an explosion of confetti. Will Ferrell accompanies all three of them in the form of the Monopoly Man. The post encourages viewers to read the latest Monopoly Go blog, in which the event and its celebrity involvement is described in further detail.

Monopoly Go! is a free-to-play game with optional in-app purchases. It is currently available on both iOS and Android devices for anyone interested in giving it a try.

While many video games are available only to those who can afford expensive consoles and computers, mobile games are designed for the average person.
