Minecraft Nether Update 1.16’s New Resources, Mobs, and Adventures

If you thought you discovered all the resources and adventures within the world of Minecraft, think again. In the Minecraft Nether update 1.16, users can discover new resources, mobs, and adventures in the Nether world on iOS, Android, PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, and more. A resource to pay particular attention to is the new material, Netherite Ingot. As Chief Creative Officer Jens Bergensten mentions, Netherite Ingot was added for two reasons.

First, he “felt that this was a chance to introduce a brand new material to work with – and that it was the perfect time to do so.” Second, he and his team “came up with the idea that Netherite could be used as a material to upgrade your current equipment, and not just an independent resource used to create its own tools and armor. That way we would maintain the value of diamond while also adding something new!”

Netherite Ingots resources can be used for helmets, chest plates, leggings, boots, swords, pickaxes, axes, shovels, and hoes (which are tougher and hit harder), and last longer than their diamond equivalents. The Netherite Ingots are also prone to lava and fire, which allow users to protect themselves and their inventory.

While searching for Netherites, users should also keep a lookout for the new Nether neighbor, Piglins. “The reason why we added Piglins was because we wanted to bring more life to the Nether, and also to add bit of culture and humor,” stated by Minecraft developer Henrik Kniberg. “As a new player going into the Nether, the Piglins probably kick your butt if you’re not careful!” Users should also be on the lookout for the dangerous, yet tasty mob Hoglins. Essentially, hunt them or avoid them.

Lastly, users now have easier access to Redstone switches by using the new Target block. With this block, users can combine four piles of Redstone and a block of hay by using a three by three crafting grid. If users accurately throw or shoot anything at the Target, the switch will activate with the object it was originally designed with. When finished and would like to replace it, users can break it and relocate it to a new desired location. Therefore, through this new feature, users can impress their friends and family with a little sharp shooting with this new Target block, as well as, in the Nether world.
