OG is a European DOTA 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive esports team founded back in 2015 to be owned and ran by players. The organization took to Twitter today to announce that it has now appointed a new CEO, J.M.R Luna, a former Hollywood filmmaker. Luna will work alongside team captain Johan “N0tail” Sundstein and others to expand global operations of the brand.
He discussed his new position with Esports Insider, saying “I am honored to be trusted to continue building the legacy of this incredible organization that so many fans around the world feel so passionately about. This is a life-changing opportunity for me…” Despite most of his notoriety stemming from filmmaking, Luna does have experience in the esports world. In 2017, he served as Head of Content for Evil Geniuses, until 2018 where he was VP of Content Production for Immortals, MIBR, and Los Angeles Valiant. He then stepped away from the esports scene to produce a film for Netflix, before returning now with his current role as CEO of OG. He’ll be responsible for bridging the board and the organization and executing the “very clear vision” of Sundstein and partners.
When asked about the appointment, Sundstein said “Competing and dealing with the stresses that come with running a company is an immense challenge and something that Sebastian and I still tried to balance for years. JMR is a much-needed asset, somebody I knew I wanted to work with.” Things seem to be going really well, as he notes that day-to-day operations have been a lot more joyous since Luna began working with them. Despite transitioning from being player run to simply player-owned, OG has already cemented their place as four-time Major winners and two-time victors of The International DOTA 2 tournament.
