Well she’s finally here, the last character for Street Fighter 6’s Season 3 DLC lineup has arrived, Ingrid skips and hops onto the scene already winning a weekly tournament. Players are hard at work in the lab trying to really figure out how to win with the character and, more likely, how to beat her. But Ingrid didn’t come alone, she also brought a very very small patch with her and a promise of future balance changes too.

First thing’s first, the patch we received alongside Ingrid gave us a few changes to Street Fighter 6’s core system, namely to the throws. No, sadly throw loops are not gone, they’re still in the game and as oppressive as ever, throw tech’ing now no longer gives the defending player Super meter. This is a pretty net neutral change to throws, as both the attacker and defender can consistently find themselves throw tech’ing depending on delays, though with the meter changes we’ll see much fewer Level 2s and 3s being spammed.
The second change is to wakeup Drive Reversal. DRev was a very slow and pretty mediocre wakeup tool but now if you catch your opponent trying to throw you with a Drive Reversal on wakeup, such as in a throw loop, you get refunded a bar of Drive. This makes the defensive game a bit more interesting, as now players have more options when in SF6’s oppressive corner.
Of course, this isn’t what everyone was expecting. Slight changes to throws where throw loops, a technique that the playerbase has been clamoring to be removed since 2023, get to stay are not going to be popular when many of SF6’s players want more changes to characters and core system mechanics. The reasoning Capcom gives behind the throw changes, that “the attacker [has] less reason to attempt a normal throw when they should be at an advantage” doesn’t really speak to the nature of how games normally play out, as the attacker is extremely advantaged in the corner. On the bright side, Capcom does promise for a more substantial balance patch in the vague future.
On a more positive note, Capcom has added a few changes for Avatar battles. With Ingrid’s release World Tour’s expansions are finally at an end, at least the expansions as we know them. Avatars now have their own unique arena where they can enter into random matches with other Avatar players. The Avatar players aren’t competitive but they make up a significant portion of the casual Japanese playerbase so it’s cool that they’re getting something too.
Ingrid’s release closes out Season 3. With a new Season on the horizon and the hopes of new changes, mechanical or otherwise, in the hearts of Street Fighter 6 players only time can tell if the future changes
