Hit-Game GTA V Comes to Epic Games Store for Free, Here’s How to Get Your Copy

The creator of Fortnite, Epic Games has released the hit-title GTA V for free via their online store through the Epic Games launcher on PC. Selling over 100 million copies across multiple platforms, GTA V has set itself apart as one of the most popular and “classic” games of the past 10 years. The game’s free release is a part of Epic’s newest “Epic Mega Sale” that will last from May 11th through June 11th, and is a part of a rotation of free weekly game titles available for download on the Epic Games launcher to introduce people to their game store. Past free games that Epic has released include Darksiders, Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Subnautica, a variety that has changed by the month. Epic also plans to continue with their free loot, as they will release a new free title each week throughout the sale.

The game also includes GTA Online as well as starting $1 million for your online character and any past updates or expansions that came with the game.  Once the launcher has been downloaded, and you have enabled two-factor authentication for your Epic account, find GTA V through the games store and hit download, and the game will be added to your Epic Games library permanently.

However, due to the large demand for the game and traffic on the store’s page, Epic’s store servers experienced large amount of lag and a number of users reported issues with downloading the game. Epic Games responded on Twitter saying, “We’re aware that some users are encountering the following error message on the Epic Games Store: “Your account is unable to download any more free games at this time. If you receive this error, please wait 24 hours. You should then be able to proceed with downloading the game.” So, if you are experiencing any lag or problems with your download, lookout for any error messages and wait to try and download the game again. Epic Games has the game available for free download until May 21, at 11 AM EST.
