Embracer Group Has Officially Acquired Dark Horse Comics

It looks like Embracer Group has struck again. The ever-growing company has acquired yet another new studio/subsidiary for its inevitable world-conquering plans, although this one is a bit more interesting than their recent purchases. The company has announced that they have acquired Dark Horse Comics, the third-largest comic publisher in North America, only behind DC and Marvel.  It’s possible that Embracer will take these newly acquired licenses and potentially create brand new video games with the billion video game studios within their umbrella.

On top of that, Embracer also acquired four, yes four other companies on the same day. These companies include Perfect World Entertainment, DIGIC, Shiver Entertainment, and Spotfilm Networx. Each of these have their own special IPs and licenses, something that Embracer is sure to take full advantage of whichever way they see fit. Keep in mind that Embracer Group has also acquired Gearbox Entertainment earlier this year, the studio behind the Borderlands franchise. Going from that and ending with a massive purchase such as this is only expected at this point.

Embracer themselves stated that they have no intention of slowing down either. They revealed just last month that they made roughly 37 different acquisitions within 12 months, and planned to do similar amount within that same time frame. In short, we’re going to see a lot more of this in 2022, which only increases Embracer’s overall catalog and continuing path to world domination. As for Dark Horse, there are plenty of IPs to choose from, all of which are also in major production across numerous entertainment avenues for movies and television purposes.

Some of these IPs include The Mask, Time Cop, and Ghost to name a few. They’ve also been the main publisher for some very well-known licensed properties such as Star Wars, Avatar The Last Airbender, Stranger Things, The Witcher, Hellboy, and one of the most popular and influential comic series of all time, Sin City. They are also the main North American distributor of one of the most critically acclaimed manga franchises in existence, Berserk. Basically, Embracer has a lot to work with here, and it’s anyone’s guess as to which project, or many projects, they’ll get working on first.
