Death Stranding on PC Has Been Delayed to July

For those who have been waiting for the PC launch of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, you’re going to have to wait just a little bit longer. Announced by both Kojima Productions and the PC publisher 505 Games on Twitter, the PC port of the critically acclaimed title has been delayed until July 14, 2020. The game was originally scheduled to release for PC on June 2 through Steam and the Epic Games Store, making the delay a little more than a month from the initial target date.

According to both Kojima Productions, the main reason for the delay is due to the current work at home orders in their native Japan due to the COVID-19 Pandemic that has had worldwide ramifications. This resulted in the temporary closure of the main office, and therefore necessitated the postponement. This isn’t the first game to suffer setbacks thanks to the pandemic. The Last of Us Part II, one of the most anticipated games of the year, has been delayed indefinitely due to the ongoing crisis and was completely removed from the PlayStation Store as result.

The PC version of Death Stranding will have a number of options available at launch, including 60 frames per second support, ultra-wide monitor support, and the photo mode that was recently added to the PlayStation 4 version. Despite being touted as a Sony exclusive since the beginning, the PC iteration will be published by 505 Games, and not Sony. Still, this didn’t take away the fact that one of the most ambitious, unique, and daring projects graced Sony’s console first.

It also helped that Death Stranding was critically acclaimed and garnered a plethora of awards during the Video Game Awards season. This includes The Game Awards, the D.I.C.E. Awards, the GDC Developers Choice Awards, and the BAFTA Game Awards. Needless to say, Kojima’s long-awaited project was well worth it. While the delay for the PC port is a bit upsetting, the reality is that considering the circumstances of the pandemic, it could’ve been much worse. An extra month will go by in no time, and soon enough we’ll all be making our own deliveries on the keyboard and mouse.

Death Stranding for PC will launch on July 24, 2020, through Steam and the Epic Games Store. It’s also available now for the PlayStation 4.
