Cyberpunk 2077 just can’t catch a break. CD Projekt Red has delayed the highly-anticipated game until December. The game’s official Twitter account tweeting the disappointing news just today. CD Projekt Red fans will have to wait another 21 days until they can explore Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City.
Like all major games, this isn’t the first time the game’s release has been delayed. The latest push back had Cyberpunk 2077 slated for November 19th, unfortunately, CD Projekt Red has run into some issues with shipping the game across nine platforms. In the statement posted to Twitter, co-founders Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwinski say,
The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen, and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test 9 versions of it
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on current-gen, next-gen, and PC on the current release date. This means CD Projekt Red will be testing versions on Xbox One X, Xbox Series S|X, PS4 Pro, PS5, PC, and Stadia. With nine versions and two different generations of hardware, it’s not hard to see why the release date was pushed back yet again. Although Cyberpunk 2077’s next-gen version won’t be out until next year, they will still have to make sure the game will run properly through both console’s backward compatibility programs. Even with all of these explanations, fans of the developer are still frustrated with the seemingly countless delays; especially when developers are hitting major crunch hours.
Cyberpunk 2077 already went “gold” in early October, meaning all content in the game is ready for production. However, in the statement posted to Twitter, Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwinski explain why “going gold” doesn’t mean the developers are finished with the game. The co-founders say the time period between “going gold” and the game’s release date is where “many improvements are being made which will then be distributed via a Day 0 patch.” Also saying this period of time was “under calculated” and partly to blame for the hold-up.
CD Projekt Red has been regularly updating fans on the production process. Also releasing Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire episodes, where they share content that will be seen during the game. This is now the third delay in CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 release date. It was originally set to be released April 16, it was then moved to September 17, then November 19, and now December 10.
