CD Projekt Red Announces Mod Editor for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Eight years after its release in 2015 and it seems that CD Projekt Red’s golden goose The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is still laying eggs as the company announced that the already impressive RPG would be receiving a Mod Editor to release for free in 2024.

For those unaware of how mod editors work, The Witcher 3 already has mod support, quite a lot of it in fact if the game’s numbers on NexusMods are any indication, but with an official Mod Editor said mods can become much more impressive and expressive in scope, ranging from unique and originally made quests, dialogues, weapons and armor to even unique game modes. If you are familiar with the classic BioWare and Obsidian RPG series Neverwinter Nights, which was practically carried on fanmade content, think something like that on a much more impressive level.

Fans will be able to let their imaginations run free, it wouldn’t be surprising to see The Witcher 1 and The Witcher 2 essentially ported into The Witcher 3 in the first batch of creations, let alone the various adventures Geralt, Yennefer, and friends got up to in Andrzej Sapkowski’s original books. Then of course there will be a plethora of original fan stories, quests, and content available to play. All things considered, this is a major announcement for fans of the classic 2015 masterpiece.

This comes at a price, however. Said Mod Editor and everything produced from it will only be available for the PC. This probably doesn’t come as too much of a shock to anyone, as even the current-gen consoles probably aren’t flexible enough to handle the Mod Editor, let alone last-gen consoles.

But altogether this is very exciting news, many burgeoning writers and developers got their start in Editors such as this. The results will be interesting, and fun above all else. If you want to experience the Mod Editor for yourself when it releases next year be sure to purchase The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt for PC on Steam or Good Old Games, and happy modding!
