Bobby Kotick Reveals Call of Duty Warzone Mobile Release in Fall 2023

Bobby Kotick, Chief Executive Officer of Activision Blizzard, announced that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile would be releasing this upcoming fall. Bobby Kotick confirmed this launch window for the anticipated release while giving evidence in court Wednesday. During his testimony, Kotick let this information out in the opening in the midst of the court case between Microsoft and the United States Federal Trade Commission on June twenty-seventh.

This current court case revolves around the mega-transaction taking place with Activision Blizzard’s sixty-nine million dollar acquisition deal. The United States Federal Trade Commission opposed this deal due to concerns surrounding industry competition. As a result, the plaintiff seeks to block Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard as a result.

Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile is a collaborative effort between Activision Shanghai, Beenox, Digital Legends, and Solid State Studios. It was a free-to-play game expected to be available on both Android and iOS devices. The game was first introduced in September of 2023 and was supposed to have a global release sometime this year. However, this recent update is one of the main reasons the mobile game’s release has been postponed.

The mobile game had a bewitching set of multiplayer modes that added new dimensions never seen before in the Call of Duty franchise. One mode in particular that stuck out to fans was the battle royale features showcased in the game that had the capability of holding up to 120 players at a time. This game design excited players as it promised an intense gaming atmosphere within the mobile game which has been a mainstay in the Call of Duty series.

“Leveraging new unified technology across Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, players can share many social features and cross-progression enabling a shared Battle Pass and more for a connected Call of Duty experience,” Activision said.

Moreover, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile had two other modes called Domination and Team Deathmatch that increased gameplay diversity among all of the other mechanics in the typical first-person shooter mobile game. These modes enabled players to elevate weapon level-ups and skills to cement a sense of progression within the game while providing other options of leveling up. They offer unique experiences for long-time fans of the Call of Duty franchise who had begun to grow tired of the same repeated formula of previous titles.

Interest in the upcoming mobile game was quite promising which fueled Microsoft to continue its development until launch. In fact, Microsoft stated that they had hoped to phase out Call of Duty: Mobile in favor of the Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile release. The Timi Studio title was another free-to-play first-person shooter that was released in October 2019. The game received over 650 million downloads, but Microsoft wanted those players to transition over to the future release.
