Although Atlus’ Persona 4 Revival will not be released until next February, a recent trailer has provided fans with an additional look at what to expect in the remake of the 2008 title, including the 2012 expansion. This trailer, officially titled the Shadow Trailer, teases new shadow designs, combat mechanics, and music.
The original Persona 4 (2008), released for the PlayStation 2, is “chronologically the fifth installment in the Persona series. The RPG follows an unnamed player character who “becomes involved in investigating mysterious murders with a group of friends while harnessing the power to summon physical manifestations of their psyches known as a Persona” after moving to Inaba for a year. Expanded in 2012 as Persona 4 Golden, it is often hailed as “one of the greatest video games ever made.”
As revealed in previous trailers, Atlus plans to have Persona 4 Revival be a complete remake of Persona 4 Golden, with graphics, fight scenes, and character art updated for the modern video game console. It will also include several new tracks by Ryota Kozuka, inspired by the game’s original music from Shoji Meguro. The new Shadow Trailer is backed with brand new music as it introduces newly personalized shadow designs.
As the crew ventures further into the Midnight Channel and encounters more Shadows, fans are shown four new combat systems. These systems consist of Prime Time, Send Flying, Dungeon Guarding, and Baton Pass, with Prime Time being the most powerful, as it has the ability to finish a match. Send Flying causes collision damage, and Dungeon Guarding makes the opponent flinch. The Baton Pass is brought in from Persona 5 and Persona 3 Reload, allowing players to transfer their extra turn after gaining points against an enemy.
Persona 4 Revival has an official launch date of February 18, 2027 for Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and Steam users. Fans who wish to play on the Nintendo Switch 2, however, will need to wait until May 20, 2027, to play. The team has plans to release at least a few more details and trailers through the game’s release, though it is unclear when these announcements will be made.
