Additional Content Will Not Be Added to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took the 2017 gaming year by storm, for it won Best Action/Adventure Game, Best Game Direction, and Game of the Year at the Game Awards 2017. But as with everything, good things must come to an end. In recent Famitsu article, Eiji Aonuma, the title’s producer, it is stated that the game will have no more DLC after The Champions’ Ballad DLC.

Only two DLC have been released through the expansion pass bundle: The Master Trials and the most recent release, The Champions’ Ballad. The pass cost only $20, and the content was released a few months apart from each other. The Master Trials added new game modes and added difficulty for veteran fans. The Champions’ Ballad added a new original story, dungeon, gear, and additional challenges for the player.

The decision to stop making content for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is probably due in part to the next Legend of Zelda game already beginning production. Since the team will now put its resources towards the next title in the series, focus will not be spread across two games, ensuring that the next game will be another polished piece. This also shows that Nintendo is more focused on moving onto the next project rather than trying to support the game with DLC over the next few years.

This has left fans both relieved and disappointed. Some had wished for more story, armor, and dungeons, while others are content with the hundreds of hours they have logged in the game and are content to have a new game already on the way.

Although there will be no new content for the game, bug fixes and small patches will still be worked on for both the Wii U and Switch versions of Breath of the Wild.
