According to Eurogamer, Microsoft will break the news of its second next-gen console, the Xbox Series S, in August. The reveal was apparently slated for Xbox’s 2020 E3 showcase, under the codename Lockhart. When E3 was canceled, Microsoft decided to move it to digital announcement as a part of their Xbox 20/20 showcase.
It’s said that the Xbox Series S will be a cheaper alternative to the Xbox Series X with less graphical power but the ability to play all the same games. Microsoft wanted to be able to share this news at their big E3 presentation so they would have the ability to explain the difference between the two machines. This could also be the reason the reveal has been pushed to August, with Eurogamer reporting that the news was meant to be shared in June. As one can see by the fact that it’s June 30th, the month has gone by without any official Xbox news. All that’s been said about what was meant to be this month’s Xbox 20/20 showcase came from Xbox Marketing Executive Aaron Greenberg on Twitter.
Instead, fans were treated to recaps of already released Xbox Series X content and features on the Xbox Wire blogs. The title of biggest Microsoft news had nothing to do with its next-gen console and probably belongs to them announcing the closure of their streaming service Mixer to merge with Facebook Gaming. Gamers will have to wait for Microsoft’s July Xbox 20/20 showcase which will reportedly occur later in the month.
