For those who use the Xbox app on PC, the software has just received a very nice update. As of this moment, Windows 10 can now stream Xbox console titles on their PCs through the Xbox app. This can be done either via remote play from an Xbox system or through the internet with cloud data. Microsoft says that the remote play option will provide the smoothest experience, while the cloud option will depend on your internet connection, albeit without downloading anything.
This new feature for the app is also utilized through the company’s online subscription service, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Those that have the service can already stream titles on their web browsers, phones, tablets, and through PCs. This new update will allow the official app to use the streaming feature and is part of Microsoft’s long-term plan to give everyone a chance to play Xbox titles anywhere on almost anything. Remote play itself is also a new feature for the Xbox Series X|S, giving even more functionality to the new hardware.
It’s also important to note that the cloud streaming option is restricted to titles on the Xbox Game Pass service. For those that want to stream directly from their console, all you need to do is activate remote play and either owns the title or have it through the Xbox Game Pass. This is also very similar to how Sony uses their PS Now service, as you can access a number of titles via cloud data and play them on a PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and even PC.
It might not seem like much, but this unique way to play console games is slowly gaining traction. It’s especially useful if you don’t even own the consoles, or if you don’t want to upgrade your PC and are worried about it running the newer, more graphical intense title. This essentially allows you to play the game without those fears. The only thing you will need to keep in mind is having a steady internet connection.
