Unannounced, Updated Version Of PlayStation 4 Pro Released By Sony

Sony has been the talk of the town as of late. From a dangerous messaging bug to the added ability for users to change PSN names, it seems that they aren’t done just yet. They very discreetly released an updated version of the PlayStation 4 Pro, without announcement or fanfare, surprising almost everyone. What makes this quietly released version of the PlayStation 4 Pro unique is that it is, well, quieter. Digital Foundry measured that the loudest this version gets is 44dB/48dB, a few decibels lower than the last model of the PlayStation 4 Pro and significantly lower than the launch model.

The updated version of the PlayStation 4 Pro is identifiable by its CUH-7200 model number. For the curious, the last version was the CUH-7100 and the launch model was the CUH-7000. The CUH-7200 has a new type of power supply, which is what apparently causes the noise reduction. It has a new figure-eight-style input and the arrangement of the ports is now changed. While all of this has changed, its cooling function is no different from the other models of the PlayStation 4 Pro, making the launch model still the coolest version of the PlayStation 4 Pro while it’s running. Don’t make the mistakes others have made; treat the CUH-7200 model of PlayStation 4 Pro like other modern consoles and give it enough space to properly allow the console to exhaust heat.

While Sony has yet to comment on the newest model of the PlayStation 4 Pro, it is indeed available, if you consider only being obtainable through a Red Dead Redemption 2 bundle in the UK as available. A full release of the CUH-7200 should be coming soon for everyone relatively soon as it is highly unlikely that they developed the new model just to release it only in a single bundle. The next PlayStation console is coming but is still years away, so expect more new models to improve upon the current systems.
