Top Gun Legends Mobile Launches in Time for Global Film Release

Playground Ventures on Wednesday announced the launch of Top Gun Legends, the official licensed game based on the successful film published under Paramount Pictures. Developed by Playground Ventures subsidiary MotionPix Game Studio, Legends is a 3D shooter reminiscent of classic arcade shooters such as Galaxia Classic with competitive player vs player features based on Top Gun film lore. The film Top Gun: Maverick comes to theaters May 27th, and the game is expected to have maximum exposure to Top Gun fans, old and new.

Legends is the only official licensed mobile game for the Top Gun franchise and is available for iOS and Android devices for free download. Players are able to play as 20 iconic characters from the film such as Maverick and Iceman. In the beginning of the game, some of these characters chat with the player and act as their guide as they navigate the skies for the first time. Characters can be bonded through interaction at the Wingmen Training Center, as there are RPG elements as well.

The game then takes players through 4 different decades across unique storylines in the Top Gun universe. This means there will be over 20 different fighter planes that can be upgraded and customized. These upgrades will aid in gunning opponents down, especially during PvP game modes such as Endless Run, Battlegrounds and Test Flight with Special Missions to complete in Limited Time Missions. Earning ranks and completing challenges allows for climbing global leaderboards.

“We’re delighted to be releasing the exclusive official Top Gun mobile game! We’re determined to capture the same sense of thrill and fist-pumping excitement from the Top Gun movies and deliver it to mobile devices worldwide,” said Chairman of Playground Ventures, Jon Gill. According to the press release, Playground Ventures is positioned to increase its presence with more games on the way. In 2021, they had completed its acquisition of Countervail Games, a mobile game developer with a focus on generating live video content with digital gameplay. The company’s idea with Legends was to release it in time with the official movie launch on May 27th. So far, the game has had over 17,000 downloads.
