There is a lot of news going around regarding upcoming games that have and have not been announced as the E3 hype continues. This includes Capcom, who has been working on the Resident Evil 2 remake for a while now, and some interesting rumors have popped up.
According to source of Rely on Horror, the game’s engine will be using a modified version of the RE Engine which was used for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. They also state that the development team’s main objective is to have the game run at 30 frames per second with a resolution of 1080p for the standard PlayStation 4. In addition, they plan on having the game run at 60 frames per second and a native 4k resolution for the PlayStation Pro. This is a bit of a surprise as the majority of the games for the Pro do not support native 4k. The Re Engine looks stunning already with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, so if this is true, then were all in for beautiful full scale HDR on 4k televisions.
However, the most stirring and surprising information to come out of this is that the game may be using the over-the-shoulder camera angle, which was introduced in Resident Evil 4, as opposed to the fixed camera angle with the tank controls that has been in the series since the beginning. If this is actually the case, then fans of the old school style of the series will be (putting it mildly) very unhappy. The camera angle debate has been going on since 2005 along with other issues, but the source also states that the characters will still retain their original appearances’ from the original release, so hopefully that will be enough to satiate both sides. Lastly the source states that Capcom has brought some of the original developers from Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 back for the project. This shouldn’t be a surprise as having the minds of the original creators on the team would be invaluable for meshing out how the game could improve on its original release.
The remake has been in development for nearly 2 years now. You can check out the 2015 announcement video here:
The extremely popular franchise has been going strong since it began in 1996 and while it has slowed down bit in recent years, anytime news comes around about the series, it jumps right back up. The Resident Evil 2 remake at this time does not have a release date. Capcom will be at E3 2018, so hopefully we get the announcement we’ve been waiting for.
