The Pathless is one of the long-awaited Apple Arcade games since 2018. The game was delayed multiple times and many fans questioned whether it will release anytime soon. The wait, however, seems to be coming to an end. From Indie game studio Giant Squid, The Pathless will be coming later this year in 2020 for Apple Arcade, EPIC GAMES, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
The Pathless is an open-world adventure game, where players will take on the role of the Hunter. The Hunter is an archery master who “travels to a mystical island to dispel a curse of darkness that grips the world” – stated on The Pathless website – and owns a flight attendant Eagle. Players will coordinate with the Eagle to fly up to high places and learn how to take care of the bird as well. Improving this mutual relationship is necessary in coordinating different tasks, which include exploring misty forests, sprinting through grass fields, aiming at targets, and solving various puzzles that are “reminiscent of (Zelda) Breath of the Wild shrines” — stated by GAMERANT.
In addition, players will encounter wild cursed beasts that ravage the world with darkness. As seen in the gameplay, they are giant red beasts that are left vulnerable after restoring light to the obelisk. Using strategic maneuvers to hide and plan an attack, players will fight against these cursed beasts. Coordinating with the Eagle, players will need to defeat the beasts in order to restore light back to the world. As this is a brief introduction to the game, there may be additional beasts players can take on throughout their journey. The world in The Pathless, therefore, has much to be explored once it releases later in 2020.
