The Last Of Us Part 2 Neil Druckman Interview Reveals New And Exciting Features For The Infected

The Last Of Us Part 2 is coming out in just a few weeks, and just today, IGN interviewed the Part 2 Director Neil Druckmann. The interview reveals some rather interesting new features that players will be able to experience when facing against their old enemies Clickers, Runners, Bloaters and Stalkers. The interview also talks about the thought process for the creation of the newest member of the infected category, Shamblers.

Shamblers are the newest category of the infected and have the unique ability to throw powerful noxious gas bombs at the players. These bombs produce a cloud of smoke that obscures the player’s vision and inflict corrosive damage. When defeated, players will have to run as quickly as possible because killing a Shambler produces the same result. According to Druckmann, one of the main reasons why the Shambler is so interesting is because “it blocks your vision. So while the mechanic on its own might seem simple on paper, it’s when you start combining it with all the other infected that can be coupled with the Shambler, it becomes really interesting.”

Clickers and Stalkers are also getting a facelift. According to Druckmann, Clickers will be much faster and much more nimble than they were in The Last Of Us. This need for an increase in speed is credited to the new dodge feature. In the interview, Druckmann stated “Ellie can dodge out of the way. So now Clickers are faster and more nimble as well to compensate for all the new mechanics that Ellie has.” Stalkers will also apparently be far creepier and far more intelligent than they used to be. According to Druckmann, “We can really play to the horror of the infected and instead of just charging at you, they will actually run away from you and hide, and look for opportunities to surprise and lunge at you.” That’s not the only thing Stalkers can do now, once a Stalker lunges at the player, a whole pack will come out and attack the player, making Stalkers far more dangerous than they were in The Last Of Us.

The Last Of Us II will become available on June 19th, 2020, and is a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
