As The Game Awards continue, the trailer for The Callisto Protocol, the debut title for Striking Distance Studios, was recently announced. Many fans noticed the similarities to the Dead Space series which was intentional as the CEO of Striking Distance Studios, Glen Schofield previously worked on the Dead Space titles.
While this trailer did not feature any gameplay, it chillingly sets the stage as it first shows a prisoner with a glowing green device implanted in the back of his neck, waking up and walking to his cell bars, and an alarm blasts “Please remain calm.” Behind him we see an unhuman shadow creep up closer and closer before we see an alien-like lifeform attack and ear the prisoner. Then it cuts to another man watching this attack on a security camera before turning it off and looking out the window at this barren camp set up on Callisto. If you want to see more, on December 17th Striking Distance Studios will release an uncensored red band version of this trailer at 10 am PST on the game’s Discord.
As was explained by Schofield, this single-player, third-person, survival horror game is set way in the distant future in the year 2320 on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. And, as he describes it, “Our goal is to make the single, most scariest game for PCs and consoles” as it aims to blend together horror, action, and immersive storytelling. Players will have to escape the maximum-security Black Iron Prison while uncovering the chilling story of what is happening there.
While The Callisto Protocol has already been in development for over a year of a half, do not hold your breath as it is planned to release sometime in 2022 for next-gen consoles and PC. Until then, prospective fans can follow the game on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
