SXSW 2016 Announces Full Gaming Expo Including ESports, Tabletop Games and a “Geek” Stage

If you live in or near the Austin, Texas area and love gaming, or “geek culture” then you might just be in luck!
A stelar, all-enpassing gaming con will be held as a part of SXSW Music, Film, and Interactive festival in Austin, Texas, called SXSW GAMING EXPO.

Doors open starting March Thursday 17th to Saturday March 19th of 2016, 12pm-8pm all three days–just one month away month!

The event will include many things, but what you should be most excited for is:
  • Geek Stage, presented by IGN.
  • A PC free play arena, kindly brought to us by Curse Inc. and Logitech, with a helping hand from producers at Asterozoa.
  • A Video Game Museum–an exhibit featuring “a curated selection of games representing the past 25 years.”
  • Indie Corner, where you can amble around
  • An Arcade Bunker, which is free to play, with your favorite classic gaming cabinets!
  • The “Gamer’s Voice Stage” courtesy of Gamestop, where indie devs will speak extensively on their games and the future.
  • ESports Tournament Stage, brought to the event by Curse Inc. and Twitch.
  • A Tabletop event hosted by Hasbro.

This venue will also be the setting for the “SXSW Gaming Awards” held on Saturday March19th. The ceremony is slated to be hosted by Esports Host Rachel “Seltzer” Quirico and popular Youtube personality Séan “Jacksepticeye” William McLoughlin. Check their finalists page to see all the games currently nominated.

The SXSW event site, along with the SXSW Game Awards, readily reassures everyone that “All SXSW Gaming Programming and Events are FREE with Guest Pass” and will not cost a dime to attendees–other than the awesome swag they purchase.
For fans unable to make it to the scene in Austin, SXSW will be holding a few of their events on Twitch.
