Survival Game ‘We Happy Few’ Delayed, Pre-Purchase Option Removed On Steam

Developer Compulsion Games announced yesterday that their game We Happy Few will be delayed into this summer. The dystopian BioShock-inspired game has been in Steam’s Early Access since 2016, but Compulsion is still in the process of polishing before the game’s official release.

“Having recently reached our “content complete” milestone, the team has conducted a thorough review of the game, beginning to end,” Compulsion wrote in a post on its website. “You can listen to Guillaume and Sam chat about it in the accompanying video, but bottom line: the team has built some amazing content, but we need more time to polish than we anticipated.” The video features input from creative director Guillaume Provost and chief operating officer Sam Abbott as they explain more on the game’s delay.

One playable character—Arthur—is getting some extra polish to his story, according to Abbott in the video. “There are these moments that are memorable, very funny, and super weird and we’re really excited to show you all. But we felt that the first two hours of Arthur’s story just didn’t live up to those moments, meaning that the game didn’t start as well as it should.”

Compulsion will be offering refunds to everybody who pre-purchased the game on Steam, regardless of playtime. They will also be disabling the option to pre-purchase the game at the end of this month, and will be re-enabling purchase “closer to launch when more info and materials on the game will have been released, giving players more clarity on what they can expect in the full version of We Happy Few.”

We Happy Few will be available in summer 2018 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
