Grand Theft Auto is no stranger to celebrity cameos, having had many famous actors appear in the series previously, such as Ray Liotta as protagonist Tommy Vercetti in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Samuel Jackson as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas antagonist Frank Tenpenny, Joe Pantoliano as Luigi Goterelli in Grand Theft Auto III, and even Burt Reynolds as Avery Carrington in Vice City. And that’s without accounting for every other cameo, with many other actors having appeared previously (and musicians as well, including the great Phil Collins as himself in Vice City).
With Grand Theft Auto VI approaching in a couple months, fans have been speculating and trying to uncover who will be voice acting in the anticipated title. There have been no confirmations, not even for the main protagonists Jason and Lucia, as to who will be voice acting in the game, until yesterday with Stephen Root confirming he will be featured in a brief interview with AP. You may have seen him in movies and shows such as Office Space, Barry, Widow’s Bay, King of the Hill, No Country for Old Men, and O Brother, Where Art Thou just to name a few. It frankly makes sense that Root will be appearing in Grand Theft Auto VI, as beyond being a celebrated and talented actor he is also a native Floridian, which serves as the inspiration for the state of “Leonida” in Grand Theft Auto VI.
This announcement is certainly exciting, but not very surprising to those keeping up with Grand Theft Auto VI news and updates, with fans speculating over a year ago that Root was to appear in the game due to the similarity between his voice and that of the character Brian Heder (who he plays), a drug trafficker and associate of the main protagonists across the game who admittedly somewhat resembles Root himself. Regardless of whether fans knew or didn’t know he was to appear in the game, it makes one curious as to who else is going to be in Grand Theft Auto VI. There is already some speculation as to who some of the other voice actors are, and we will likely hear more about it as the launch date approaches
