Super Smash Bros. Ultimate continues to deliver new fighters to shake things up on the battlefield. This November, Terry Bogard from the popular fighting game King of Fighters will be the next installment. This leaves one more character left for the currently available fighter pass but Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Nintendo will add even more Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighters moving forward. Many have wondered who the last fighter of the pass will be but a new leak may have shed some light on what fans can likely expect.
According to GameFAQs user WeaverSerawl claimed that long-awaited third-party character, Geno may be the next addition to the roster. Geno is one of the two original party member characters from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, the first Mario RPG title. Geno is known as a spiritual entity who works “for a higher authority” who has used a doll as his catalyst to fight alongside Mario and his friends. Geno has been suspected to join the Smash cast ever since Super Smash Bros. was released on the Wii U and 3DS.
“Geno is the Fifth Fighter’s Pass character,” claimed WeaverSerawl. “He only comes with two songs, though they’ll be usable on all Mario stages, and all Mario songs will be playable on Geno’s stage.” Weavers leaks have not always come to fruition, but this time there is a lot more evidence to back up his claim along with a quote from Sakurai himself from an interview in March.
“Geno was actually a character I wanted to include as a fighter,” said Sakurai. “He has a gun for an arm, and just seems like he’d fit absolutely perfectly into Smash. I was hoping I’d be able to put him in as far back as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but unfortunately, that never ended up materializing.”
We know that characters never seem to make an appearance in the roster if they are used as assist trophies or are featured as a Mii costume. Geno was a Mii costume back in Brawl but is no longer featured in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Another list that was leaked before the game even released possibly referenced Geno along with many other characters who were added to the game. The list included “King” (King K. Rool), “Secretary” (Isabelle), “Warrior” (the Belmonts), “Ponytail” (Terry Bogard), and “Doll”, which has been widely interpreted as a reference to Geno.
Nothing has been officially announced but the details look promising. All of the Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighters can be purchased with either the $24.99 Fighter Pass or individually for $5.99 upon their release.
