Stranger Things 3: The Game Takes the Series’ Beloved Characters On a 16-Bit Ride

It seems fans of Netflix’s beloved series, Stranger Things, won’t have to wait long to return to the dark world of Hawkins, Indiana. The Duffer Brothers, creators of the acclaimed series, took to the stage during the Game Awards to reveal Stranger Things 3: The Game, a tie-in project with Season 3 of the television show that will undoubtedly shed much light on the plot and characters of the upcoming season.

BonusXP, the studio behind the first Stranger Things game, will return to work on the title in collaboration with Netflix. According to the Duffers, the game will follow the events of Season 3 and offers co-op play on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch; not only that, they’ve also upgraded the characters fans around the world all know and love to an impressive 16-bits.

From the attached gameplay trailer, the game features a top-down perspective with a brawler-type combat system and some projectile play. The stages are mostly constrained rooms seen from above with enemies that can be engaged upon like most arcade brawlers. As cooperative play was mentioned before, multiple characters can be seen together in the levels.

There is no set release date for the game, but it’ll likely be close to the launch date of Stranger Thing’s Season 3 for optimal marketing opportunities.
