State Of Play September 2023: New Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Footage, Resident Evil 4 DLC, & More

Yesterday, out of the blue, PlayStation announced its next State of Play. They said that it would be focused on indie and third-party titles from around the world. Here is the recap of everything that was announced for the September 2023 State of Play.

Baby Stepsthe walking simulator where you manually control the main character Nate’s feet and where to place them is coming to PlayStation next year. However, it’s not as simple and easy as people might think it would be. Each surface is physically simulated so guiding Nate step-by-step will be tricky through a multitude of wild terrain-based challenges.

Robloxone of the largest 3D immersive platforms will be making its way to PlayStation next month on October 10. The game lets players explore and share experiences with friends. With over 66 million daily active users and a massive variety of 3D immersive experiences created by a global community, there’s always something new to discover.

Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is set to launch on PlayStation VR 2 on October 26. Developer nDreams utilizes the PS VR2’s unique capabilities to truly immerse players in the Ghostbusters universe in a cooperative multiplayer title. The game will feature a new story, new location, new equipment, and new cast for the ultimate Ghostbusters experience in VR.

A new look was presented for the VR mode coming to Resident Evil 4 this Winter. Resident Evil 4 VR Mode allows you to experience the entire story mode of the base game on PlayStation VR2. With PlayStation VR 2’s Sense Controllers, players can experience immersion and the weapons in the game as if you were actually Leon on his mission of rescue and survival. Utilizing their time with Resident Evil 7’s VR mode, the development team focused on adapting all of the varied weapons to VR from the way they are held and reloaded, to the easy-to-understand input and haptic feedback of the Sense controllers, players will be able to feel each unique characteristic of the handguns, submachine guns, rifles, and more. This also applies to knives. They are enhanced for VR and allow players to parry when the knife is swung at the right time, sneak up on unseen enemies for a sneak takedown, and more.

Capcom also announced additional story DLC called Separate Ways. The DLC tells the story of Ada Wong and her parallel journey through the events of Resident Evil 4, filling in unanswered questions from the main story. Separate Ways is set to release next week on September 21 alongside an update to the Mercenaries mode adding Ada Wong and Albert Wesker as new, playable characters.

A new trailer was revealed for Avatar: Frontiers of PandoraThe trailer focuses on the story of the game which casts players as a Na’vi, who as an infant was abducted by the RDA to be part of The Ambassador Program (TAP) and trained in human ways. You’ve been kept away from your home world of Pandora, and from your people. You are one of the remaining members of the respected Sarentu clan, thought to have disappeared years ago. During the Battle of the Hallelujah Mountains featured in the first Avatar movie, you were put into emergency cryosleep as the RDA evacuated Pandora. 15 years later, you wake up and step onto Pandora, as a stranger in your birthplace. The game is set to release on December 7, 2023.

Ghostrunner II got a new story trailer. It was also revealed that a demo is now live on PlayStation 5, offering a taste of the thrilling cyberpunk experience that awaits them. Players will take control of Jack and experience exhilarating new combat and motorbike action as Jack traverses the streets of Dharma Tower like never before. Ghostrunner II is set to launch on October 26, 2023.

PlayStation announced the Deep Earth Collection, a new metallic colorway for PS5 accessories. The collection introduces three new colors for the DualSense wireless controller and PS5 console covers, all with a smooth metallic finish: molten Volcanic Red, alluring Cobalt Blue, and sleek Sterling Silver.

A new look was provided for Helldivers IIDeveloper Arrowhead Game Studios announced that the game is set to launch on PS5 and Steam on February 8, 2024.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to launch next month on October 20, 2023. For the State of Play, Insomniac Games presented a deep dive on its expanded New York City, including the ways they have evolved the game with new locations, updated exploration, exhilarating traversal, near-instant switching between heroes, a rogue’s gallery of villains, new abilities and gadgets, and brand-new Suit Styles.

Tales of Arise – Beyond the Dawn is the first DLC in the Tales of series that is a direct continuation of the main story in this scale. The story revolves around a new character named Naxamil, a girl of both Dahnan and Renan blood and is the daughter of a Lord who stood in the way of the player in the main story of Arise. Beyond the Dawn launches on November 9, 2023.

Honkai: Star Rail is set to launch on PlayStation 5 on October 11, 2023.

Foamstars is a new cooperative multiplayer shooter for PS5 and PS4 that puts two competitive teams of foam-flinging characters in fast-paced online battles. Square Enix has announced that the game will be getting an Open Beta party that is available for all PS5 and PS4 players to try. The Open Beta Party features two game modes and all the characters available at launch. This is free-to-play online for all PS5 players – even those without PlayStation Plus. The Beta runs:

  • September 29, 9pm PDT – October 1, 11.59pm PDT
  • September 30, 2am BST – October 2, 7.59pm BST
  • September 30, 3am CET – October 2, 8.59am CET
  • September 30, 10am JST – October 2, 3.59pm JST

The one more thing for this State of Play was a brand-new look at the highly-anticipated Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. The footage featured a ton of new gameplay including a variety of mini-games players can partake in. In addition to the new footage, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is set to release on February 29, 2024.
